¡Hola! My name is Katherine De Lima- and this is my CRAZY attempt at blogging about teaching Spanish. This is something I’ve wanted to do for a really long time and decided today to just do it! My goal is to share my ideas, get feedback and ultimately improve my practice through sharing and collaborating with other Spanish teachers. I’ve been inspired by other blogs- Creative Language Class, Zambombazo and Musicuentos have given me so many great ideas and inspiration and I hope that I can collaborate and help other teachers as they have helped me 🙂
A little bit about me… My family is Colombian and even though I was born in the US, I feel as Colombian as my family in Barranquilla. Growing up in a bilingual and bicultural home has given me so much perspective and I feel so lucky to have had that experience (even if at the time I didn’t think so…). This is my 10th year teaching (wow! ¿Cómo pasa el tiempo?). I have taught middle school and elementary school. The little ones are cute but I love teaching middle school! I currently teach 7th and 8th grade in Massachusetts – everyone wishes me luck when I tell them I teach this age group- but I really do love it! There’s nothing better than the novice student’s enthusiasm- ¿no?
I have an AS in Early Childhood, a BA in Spanish and an MA in Applied Linguistics. My Master’s program really transformed the way I thought about teaching and learning languages and it made me do a 360 in terms of how I presented information and assessed it – and this process is still ongoing! My hope is that in collaboration with other teachers I can continue to grow and learn!
I will try to post daily, or every few days… Please comment and give me feedback!
